Laura is a veteran at the Youth Theatre
of Chattanooga Theatre Centre. Having
recently received their Parent Volunteer
of the Year Award, she has worked
primarily backstage with makeup design,
costumes, scenic painting, and props.
However, she also appeared on stage as
Mother in a CTC production of A
Christmas Story. She is excited about
her debut with Hamilton Community
Theatre along with her three sons, whom
she teaches at home.
Laura’s love of theatre perhaps began
when she performed in the first grade as
the narrator for her class presentation of
The Gingerbread Man. Later, high
school speech and choral classes
furthered her interest. However, most
influential was a professor at UTC who
taught her Introduction to Theatre class.
Yet, instead of stage performance, Laura
pursued writing as a creative outlet and
had some poems published in a literary
magazine and was a staff writer for her
college’s newspaper. For her
departmental honors project in English
she composed a book of poetry, Through
Walnuts, which is still part of the library’s
collection.
More recently, Laura has pursued an
interest in photography. Although she
considers photography a hobby, she has
shot some special events including a
wedding. Soon some of her
photographs will be exhibited at
Memorial Hospital as a part of the
National Arts Program.
Laura’s other passions include
researching family history, hiking in the
mountains, volunteering as a Cub Scout
leader, and being a full-time wife and
Mom.
